The Love of My Life

To Kenny from Annie
......................................................................
How do I tell you, how much I love you?
How to begin to say how much I care?
Words aren't sufficient to tell the whole story,
Of just what it means... for you to be there.

I spent my whole life, waiting on others,
Loving much more than was ever returned.
Now I love more than I ever thought I could,
And yet, you love more, of this I have learned.

I am so blessed, for God sent me an angel,
(Tho sometimes your halo is somewhat esquew)
No woman could wish for a husband more pleasing,
More caring, more loving, more helpful, more true.

To hear that you're happiest, when you can please me,
Fills my heart to bursting, brings tears to my eyes.
For I've never known that such true love existed,
You surely are different from most other guys!

Yes, I am quite blessed to love someone who loves me,
Talks to me, listens, and yes, comprehends,
Lovers and dreamers, scholars and soulmates,
But best of all this, is that we are best friends.

is......

To Kenny from Annie
Love is caring, knowing, sharing,
Love is quietly standing by,
Love is listening, holding waiting,
Love is blind, and asks not why.

Love is flowers.... for no reason,
Hanging clothes up on their hook,
Love is helping with the dishes,
Love is sometimes... just a look.

True love doesn't need a season,
Cards and Calendars marked as such,
Gifts aren't needed to say I Love You,
You can do that with a touch!

Valentine's Day is Nigh

by Shelby Forrest
The elderly man and his lady love
To a restaurant went to dine.
"You show me yours, my dear," he said,
"And I will show you mine."

"Oh I suppose," the lady replied,
With a shy , but coy grin.
"At the tender age that we have reached,"
"Twould not be considered a sin."

So they touched their glasses together
To toast each other with wine.
And they gave to each other cards that read,
"Won't you be my valentine?"

The Offering

by Thomas Lee Rhymes

 If I could
 I'd freely give him love
 to give to you

I'd give him hope
for your release

I'd give him grace
and soothing peace

I'd give him desire
to spoil you

with Passion's fire
to give to you

And what he would say, I would say
and how he would love, I would love
and how he would touch, I would touch
His kiss would be my own
for I would be a part of him
and he, of me
for with you, I would be

           I'd give him these
              and anything else, he pleased
          to be with you

           to be with you
        If I could

 "Lonely Without You"

by Elizabeth McCrea
You kissed me goodbye as you walked out the door
I laid there crying thinking I shall see you no more
What has happened to make me so sad?
Is our time in the light over?
What shall become of this pain in my heart?
Will it ever go away, just as you walked through that door?
Not a glance behind you, to see my face, to see my pain
What shall become of this love that I feel for you?
Shall it just fade in the night or will it eventually once again shine bright?
I have hidden my feelings afraid of your response
What should I have done?  Should I have told you, so you maybe would run?
You are the one for me right in front of me
Do you feel the same or is it just me?
Please don't say goodbye, say, "we'll try harder and see where it takes us"
That is the only thing that we can do
You are my bright sky when days are gray and lonely
You make me smile when I need to cry
You are quick with a response, even though it may be wise
I can surely see my future when I look in your eyes.
Please don't say goodbye, just say you'll try.

To Gloria  on Valentine's Day

by Shelby Forrest
St. Valentine's Day is approaching fast,
The signs are everywhere.
Lovers are walking by hand in hand,
Cupids' darts now fill the air.

We hear much talk of that little word,
But what is the meaning of love?
It can, of course, be tender and soft
Like the feathers of a dove.

Or it could bring  both tears and pain,
Sharp thorns that pierce the heart;
Distress from unrequited love,
Sorrow when lovers must part

But love, like an ember, glows for me
Ready to burst into flame
With feelings that are brought to life
By the mention of your name.

Our love's been fed from a solid base
Which through the years did grow.
For flames of passion we have little need,
So long as the embers glow.
I offer my grateful thanks to God.
Our love's aged like good wine.
For forty eight years (and I hope many more)
You've been my valentine.

       Love One Another

By LOUISE EVAN
JOHN 13:34  (The Lord Jesus is speaking)
"A new commandment I give you, that
you love one another, even as I have loved
you, and that you also love one another."
Lord Jesus once came to earth,
this sinful world to save.
He had a new commandment,
a new command He gave.
"This is My commandment,
what I want you to do,
is to love one another
as I have loved all you."

Lord Jesus laid His life down,
there on Mount Calvary,
to pay the awful sin-debt
owed by both you and me.
Lord Jesus bestowed His love
to give us saving grace
that we may enter heaven,
as we His love embrace.

Lord Jesus gives us His love.
His pure love we receive
when we simply trust Him
and in Him we believe.
"This is My commandment,
Lord Jesus speaks today,
"You should love one another
in all you do and say."

Lord Jesus gives us His love,
So we should strive to learn,
to pass on His holy love,
this love we cannot earn.
Let us love one another
as He would have us do,
Passing on the precious love
he gives to me and you.

Yes, Valentine's Day is about love, but what greater love is there than the love
of Jesus!!!!

Friends And Sweethearts

The day is almost here
As soon it will be time
Upon the romantic day
To send loves valentine

Most friends and lovers
Place hearts on display
To send loving greetings
From near or far away

A cards loving message
Flowers in every array
Bouquets at doorsteps
Make this a special day

To sweetheart or friend
Words can mean much
Valentine heart to heart
Conveys a loving touch

Heartbeats, heartstrings
On land , sea and sky
Transport loving heart's
The day that cupids fly

My Secret Crush

By: Cassandra Hill
I have a secret crush on you
but I try not to let it show,
and each passing day that you are there
my crush continues to grow.

Sometimes when your in my presence
my cheeks begin to blush,
I try to stop it, but I can't
so deeper grows my crush.

The constant glances
my weakened knees,
oh, how I wish
You'd go out with me

I talk about you all the time
because your in my every thought,
I try to talk to you, but I chicken out
'cause my stomachs in one tight knot.

I wonder if we're meant to be
but it's better if we don't rush,
All I know is that I like you a lot
because you are my secret crush.

The Loves of My Life
(for Ron)

by Barbara Martin
Her body was sleek and sexy,
Silky and soft to touch.
She was a gorgeous shade of bronze,
I wanted her so much.

The first time I saw her,
I knew she would be mine;
Our relationship since then
Has been nothing but divine.

I’m head over heels in love with her,
We go everywhere together.
I spend all my money on her,
She gives me so much pleasure.

I know I’m fat and ugly,
And not much like a star,
But my love doesn’t mind you see,
‘Cos she’s my motorcar!

I also have another love,
Who’s cuddly and warm,
And snuggles up beside me
Whenever there’s a storm.

His fur coat is so beautiful,
He’s handsome as can be,
I feel so very humble,
He puts all his trust in me.

I buy lots of special treats
For Oscar my cat.
He catches birds for me,
And leaves them on the mat.

Next there is my loving wife,
Last on the list again;
But if she feels neglected,
She never does complain.

I know I am a lucky man,
These are the loves of my life,
(In alphabetical order)
My car, my cat and my wife!

Be My Valentine

by Barbara Martin
I'd really like to thank Dot Com
For our introduction,
But a chat room on the World Wide Web
Is not conducive to seduction.

You really have a way with words,
Your nature seems so sweet,
If I could hold you in my arms
My life would be complete.

I know a cozy little place
Where we could meet off line,
So please my darling cyber pet,
BE MY VALENTINE!

To Annie

By Ken Wittig
You're the best thing,
That ever happened to me,
I look in the mirror,
And say, "How can that be?"

"You must have done something,
Good in your life,
That God would bless you,
And make her your wife"

Whatever this good deed,
I'm glad it was done,
For you've made me realize,
Life can be FUN!!!!

Happy Valentine's Day

My Angel, My Love

By Ken Wittig
Many days in recent past
I sat and pondered life's ordeals
Could I have died and gone to Heaven?
Or is this really how LOVE feels?

And then reality sets the mood,
Each time you walk into the room,
Life's traumas are becoming tolerable
My world's no longer full of gloom.

For you're my Angel sent from Heaven,
To share all of my ups and downs,
In glad times we enjoy the smiles,
Your being there helps decrease the frowns.

You may not feel like my Guardian Angel,
Sent to me by the Lord above,
But let me assure you, I can feel HIS presence,
Each time that we're close, my love.

You've shown me that life can be joyous,
Even full of fright and fraught
For every cloud has a silver lining,
A bright side is always a pleasant thought.

My Angel, your wings may not be visible,
For every person to easily see,
But I can identify each marking,
On wings created just for me.

I LOVE YOU

Love and Life
(To Annie)

By Ken Wittig
We met what seems three lives ago,
But just nine years have passed,
Then, there was no way we could know,
How long this dream would last.

We were in it for the short run,
'Cause I just wouldn't commit
All I wanted was, to have some fun,
Go on with MY life, DON'T submit.

But as a wise man once told me,
"Patience is a Virtue"....see
And you proved that, a fact to be,
You patiently waited around for me.

And since I pledged to you, my love,
It has gone unfaltered,
For we fit each other like a glove,
Never needing to be altered.

Now the time of year has come
The time when we first met,
We knew not we'd become as one
But neither shall forget.

The trials that I did create,
Or at least I did at first,
That Valentine's Day, OUR FIRST (formal)  DATE,
Thought it couldn't have gone much worse.

But we crossed that rocky road with ease
and came upon a fork
A decision needed to be made
If this was going to work

Two years later we were wed,
And moved up to the cold
Loss of sunshine affected our heads
For we THOUGHT we'd grown too old

But three years later we came back
To the warm and sunny south
For the snow and cold that Florida lacks
Helped our aging turn about.

Those sunny days we took "as so"
Have now turned cold once more
But no more trudging through the snow
Just to make it to the store.

Yes my love, we've crossed the road,
Back where you first appeared,
Back to a place where it never snows
And age doesn't interfere.

Now even though our days don't lack
Their share of rocky roads,
I sure am glad that we came back
Out of the snow and cold

And our love shall be reveared as such,
To all who come to view
For each day that I feel your touch,
Our life begins anew

Valentine's Day

By Sarah Picklesimer

Old and new love poems call for once year rituals
that bestows praise for a kind but dead St.Valentine,
and every spring gifts for one lover's moment,
holds desire I never had, but for you,
you, who loved Lake Tillery,
more than the mountains,
that led you into Carolina land's limbs.

Obliteration away from me kept you
infatuated with fishing in damp air,
your corium soaked in sun lit jubilance,
as lapping waters pulsated your private parts,
that danced away from me.
I almost never mourn the day you left,
until memories of your heated throbbing against me
prompts and restores heartfelt bruises
Valentine's Day brings out.

With grief so similar to dreaded weather:
Sleet, stroke of lightning, or the cool south wind drifts,
and downpours make small heartbeats think
desire can fly to Carolina, embracing their lost love's ecstasy,
like the snowbirds whose cardinal joy is the wind that upholds them
from Tennessee to Florida through the kaleidoscopic clouds
swollen taut as my eyes that always cry escaping winter.

Here in Knoxville, south leads not to an open lake of water,
but to imprisoned feelings. I still mourn anytime
that cool south wind vibrates the rivers, breaking
the crystal-clear reflection of the heavens; when I
must encapsulate this Valentine's Day alone, then
I know I have truly lost you.

Embracing Valentine

by Hope Smith
The night for romance
I've been planning this
Romantic lovers suite
Valentine night of bliss

The velvet rose petals
Soft satin sheets white
Perfume candles glow
Romance fills the night

Into the overnight bag
I'll pack and prepare
The gown of red lace
With  lacy underwear

Music sets the mood
Room of ocean view
In the Valentine suite
With hot tub for two

Arranging  the room
Chocolates and wine
Red glowing candles
Awaits my Valentine

To sweetly surrender
Heartbeats to dance
Valentines embracing
In love and romance

Intro to Cupid's Touch ....
Kiss me darling, with your eyes,
Take my love in glad surprise
Keep on telling me sweet lies,
Other loves have made me wise
Bury me when your love dies.

Cupid's Touch

by Terese Anthony
Once, on a graying patch of sunny day,
I wondered, longing for a time to know
The reasons why my lover could not stay,
He left me on that day so long ago.
My heart is like a bonfire, burning low.
What shone like silver now has turned to clay,
Those carefree days we wandered in the snow.
That summer when we sailed across the bay.
Too soon the icy breath of winter came;
Its coldness finally crept into my heart
What once had been a lovely roaring flame,
Became an ashy ember on your part.
True love is not an animal to tame,
It must be taken with a Cupid's dart!

 My Valentine

by Gerry Rothery
Oh-let your arms hold me, forever enfold me,
Your kiss caress my lips.
Let your eyes be blind, to the changes you find,
Touch me with your fingertips.

I will hold your hand, and always stand,
By you ‘till the end of time.
You can lean on me, forever, you see,
For we spoke a vow divine.

You are my strength through all the day’s length,
My comfort in night’s dark hours.
I find in you happiness anew,
‘Cause love still blooms as flowers.

I thank God above for our binding love,
And the richness of our days,
For the blessings which He gives to us,
He is worthy to be praised!

My Valentine

by L. B. Strawn
My valentine is really mine;
For thirty five years it has been so.
Our years together have been truly fine;
Our love will never wane but grow.

My valentine is my true sweetheart;
She's as sweet as sweet can be.
Only death can ever part,
For our love is true, you see.

Seven and thirty years ago, by chance,
I met this sweet young lass.
I could tell in just a glance
That she had poise and class.

Six and thirty years, or less,
I asked her for her hand.
I knew, if only she'd say yes,
My life would be so grand.

Five and thirty years then came;
She vowed that she'd be mine.
Since then she's worn my family name;
My one and only valentine.

        Valentine

by L. B. Strawn
To the valentine of my life,
My love, my sweetheart, my wife.
I have cherished you since Cupid’s arrow
Pierced my heart, causing joy and not sorrow.

I’m glad you allowed me to be your beau,
Though 53 years have passed, and so,
My mem’ry is as happy this day, right now,
Because, each to the other has kept their vow.

Valentine's Day was never an occasion celebrated in our 'bush' family.
The word love was not really in our vocabulary, but 'like' copped a fair bashing.
I may be wrong but in fact I don't know if Valentines Day was ever a big deal in Australia until about fifteen or twenty years ago.
Anyhow here's another example of pure unadulterated Aussie Bush Poetry.

In case you don't know: bluchers = heavy workboots.
Sort = a sheila, or a woman, a good sort.

Valentine?

© Frank Daniel. Canowindra NSW

I was never one for smoodgin’ and all that lovie-dovie talk,
But I remember long ago, when I took a lady for a walk.
I can still recall the feelings when she sorta touched my hand -
My heart surged like a bore-pump gushing forth across the land.

We were walking by the Lucerne flats down by the running stream
When I longed to hold her close to me - but I could only dream.
And as we walked beneath the willows around the rivers bend
I felt so good I made a wish that special day would never end.

She talked of peace and poetry, how the flowers smelled so sweet,
She talked of fragrant blossoms, I smelt someone cooking meat.
She pointed to the heavens, how the clouds looked smooth and sleek
I looked towards the horizon, reckoned rain within a week.

Not being flash on conversation, I just grinned and smiled a bit,
And gave a little ‘mmm’ and ‘yep’ when e’er I thought it fit.
Her voice was soft and lilting like . . like . . a harpsicord of life
I thought by God she’s handsome; she’d make a bonzer wife.

She dilly-dallied at the crossing – cooled her ankles in the stream,
Held her hem above the waters – again I stared and dreamed.
And as I skipped across some stones to keep my bluchers dry
I glimpsed a loving look from her, a twinkling in her eye.

She called me her sweet Romeo, I said ‘me mother called me Jim’
Then I slipped upon a mossy stone and near went for a swim.
I teetered and I balanced then I jumped what seemed a mile,
She pronounced me very clever, ‘so athletic in my style’.

Then she said some rather fancy words that left me standing dumb.
Words that just confused me, I felt my body turning numb.
I became all goosey-bumpy - felt a shiver running up my spine,
Then she whispered something like – ‘would you be my valentine?’

Would I be her flamin’ valentine! I found that one hard to cop.
Valentines were chocolates – I saw them at the grocer’s shop.
Embarrassment was setting in – I knew my face was turning red,
She couldn’t mean a chocolate - I’d somehow lost her thread.

In dire straits I sought escape, such romantic talk I used to dread
And said I’d have to check me lines, ‘I’d set them just ahead’.
Then she took off in a huffle, just turned her tail and flitted out
I lost the best darned sort I’d had - - but I got two rainbow trout.
